The judges selected the Snog Frozen Yoghurt shop in Soho, London, which was designed by Cinimod Studio and fitted out by Vivid, from a shortlist of six international entries. The judges singled out the project for its ‘exciting and unique blend of architecture and lighting design’.

Vivid completed the fit out in March this year after a fast track eight week programme of works and has just been appointed to start work on a second project for Snog at its newly acquired Covent Garden site. The scheme will see the company team up with the award-winning Cinimod Studio once again to deliver what promises to be another exciting and challenging project in February 2010.

Lecture Theatres B, F and G got a facelift with a complete refurbishment of the existing seating and installation of state-of-the-art audio visual equipment. The project also included the replacement of roof coverings, the upgrade of existing services and improved ventilation throughout.

In addition Vivid completed work on another part of the University where the company refurbished and remodelled parts of the Duke of Kent and AX Buildings. The new ground floor of the AX Building now provides modern facilities and accommodation for physiology students as well as laboratory and research space. The Duke of Kent refurbishment now provides practice facilities for the training of nursing staff.

These latest projects follow the successful delivery of refurbishment works to the public areas of the lecture theatres earlier this year.

For the first project Vivid carried out refurbishment work to the Southwood, John Smith and William Penney halls of residence on Imperial College London's Silwood Park campus in Ascot, Berkshire. Bedrooms were remodelled to form self-contained suites with en-suite bathrooms and kitchenettes. Baths were replaced with shower pods and kitchens re-designed to accommodate more storage and equipment.

Other works included window replacements, plumbing and electrical services, new lighting, carpeting and decoration. New fire doors were fitted to the kitchens and fire detection with visual displays installed in the bathrooms.

The second project saw Vivid undertake repairs to the glass atrium roofs of the Munro, Lees and Kennedy Buildings. The roofs had been leaking and causing damage in the stairwells. The double glazed roof units were replaced and weather-proofed with new lead work and teh gutters adapted to suit the new layout. Inside, metal lathe was installed in the walls of the stairwells to prevent future cracking. The work was carried out in phases, three stairwells at a time to allow the college to function as normal and provide safe access to the buildings.

The award recognises Vivid’s high standard of project delivery, and as the only company to achieve ‘delivery of projects with zero snags’, Vivid is delighted with the accomplishment.

Vivid Interiors is one of six main contractors appointed to carry out the works, which are part of the £multi-million Royal Mail framework.

The 2,000 sq m of fit out works are spread across three separate buildings which will provide Primary Care facilities for NHS Islington. New M&E services will be installed along with specialist joinery, ceilings, flooring, medical cabinetry and FF&E.

The units will provide patients with access to numerous facilities including sickle cell and thalassaemia, drugs and alcohol abuse, dentistry, podiatry, minor surgery, biomechanic and physiotherapy, as well as providing staff training and conference facilities.

The project forms part of the first phase of the Arsenal FC relocation and Highbury Ashburton Grove regeneration which was completed approximately two years ago.

The Claverton Rooms comprise a senior common room with a large dining, leisure and bar area. Working closely with Turnkey Design Partnership, Vivid carried out a full refurbishment with alterations and adaptations to existing areas in order to create a new hot food servery area and separate dining facilities.

The on-site duration of the project was only two weeks and the works were carried out in phases allowing the bar and restaurant to remain operational throughout the summer recess as the area was being used for Open University Courses during that period.

At the same time Vivid is also working on another part of the University where the company has undertaken a project to refurbish and remodel parts of the Duke of Kent and AX Buildings. The new ground floor of AX Building will provide a modern facility and accommodation for the undergraduate and postgraduate study of Physiology. The refurbished Duke of Kent facilities will provide practice facilities for the training of nursing staff. . Handover is scheduled for September following the 16 week programme of works.

The first project will entail replacing glazed units to the atrium dormer roofs of the Munro, Lees and Kennedy Buildings at Imperial College’s Ascot Campus. The scope also includes associated lead work and internal decorations to six stairwells. The second project, also at Ascot, encompasses the refurbishment of Silwood Park Residence which provides student accommodation for undergraduates. Works include the full redecoration and re-carpeting of the entire building and will be completed over the summer break.

Vivid Interiors is one of the contractors appointed to the Imperial College framework which will see an estimated £400m worth of construction works carried out over the four years of the framework.

The awards, which are hosted by Mix Interiors magazine, recognise design, innovation and high quality delivery in the interior fit out and refurbishment sector.

The 2,200 sq m high tech library is spread over four floors allowing the stock to increase from 45,000 to 58,000.  Its innovation lies in its flexibility, the range of spaces, moods and offers, its use of latest technologies such as RFID and its extraordinary new stock of books and technologies.

The library has also provided a successful pilot of the teenage concept ‘Headspace’ and the children’s library with its woodland garden of book trees, story circles and reading flowers has proved a real success.

“The mezzanine exhibition area, quiet study space and classrooms give it further flexibility, but there are also meeting room spaces which can be hired by local businesses – making the library revenue-generating which is unusual for a public sector building,” comments Vivid’s managing director, Damien Kenny.

Vivid was voted joint winner of the award along with architectural practice Bisset Adams who were responsible for the design element of the project.

The Mixology judges said the scheme was a beacon of learning and imagination for the community and presented great value for public money.
