Answer

Ivor Novello created a huge body of work during his lifetime as a composer, songwriter and playwright. He also lived a colourful and very public life off the stage.

The Novello Theatre, named after the great man, is owned and operated by Delfont Mackinstosh. In March 2006 it was re-opened following a substantial refurbishment.

During the project we’d had to tackle many unique finishes and obstacles to bring the space into the 21st century (it hadn’t been touched since 1970). But the most memorable of these has to be breaking through into the previous living quarters of Mr Novello. The theatre owners needed the room to create more space for theatre-goers, I don’t suppose Mr Novello will mind though, he sadly passed away before his time in 1951.
