Education fit-out specialist Vivid Interiors has started work on a project to refurbish student accommodation at Trinity College, Oxford. The work is being completed within the existing 19th Century buildings and requires the integration of 25 en-suite bathroom “pods” into a period building.

The pods are being manufactured off-site in a flat pack format which was utilized to overcome challenging site access constraints. Once delivered, the pods take just two to three days to assemble and will provide enhanced accommodation for the students. The works schedule has been carefully planned to prevent disruption to the student population and the general public as the works are being carried out during term time and are adjacent to the main quadrangle at the college which is a major tourist attraction.

The 29-week project also includes the refurbishment of an underground plant room, which services the residential buildings across the southern half of the campus, and the installation of a new energy-efficient heating system. The completed scheme is due to hand over in March 2010.
