Umu Restaurant

Project description

This Kyoto-style restaurant specialises in the artistic and refined ‘kaiseki’ cuisine and was designed to reflect the beauty and quality of the food.

The ceiling was hung with Italian handmade blown glass which was finished in and imported from New York. The flooring was composed of individually laid block wood and granite. Specialist fret cut joinery was used to partition different areas of the restaurant.

The Korean curved reception table weighed three quarters of a ton and had to be crane-lifted into the building and lowered into place by a specialist subcontractor.
